Watercress is a water-loving plant that has long been a popular leafy vegetable in various food dishes. Although watercress is known to grow along streams and other water sources, you can still grow it in your yard as long as you provide the plant with adequate moisture. Watercress has a tangy and peppery taste and also makes a beautiful addition to your garden area whether you have constantly flowing water or not. Planting, Growing, and Harvesting: Transporting plants from indoors is not recommended, since the roots are fragile. Plant seeds outside in a place where they will receive plenty of moisture—preferably fresh, running water. You can create a good growing environment by planting the seeds in soil that is good at retaining moisture and watering them often. The most convenient place to grow watercress in your yard would be near a garden pond. You could also achieve constantly moist soil for the watercress plant by planting in a pot (with drainage holes on the bottom) and submerging the pot in water so the soil can soak it up. You can harvest watercress continually as needed. Just cut off a few of the plant’s sprigs. Be sure you don’t harvest too heavily.
