Set in the Southern United States two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained follows the story of Django, played by Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx. Django is a slave with a painful past, facing his former owners, when he meets Dr. King Schultz, a German-born bounty hunter portrayed by Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz. Schultz is hunting the dangerous Brittle brothers, and only Django can guide him to their location. He promises to free Django after capturing the Brittle brothers, dead or alive. The successful hunt leads to Django's freedom, but instead of parting ways, the two men team up to pursue notorious criminals across the South. Django develops important hunting skills while remaining driven by one goal: to find and rescue his wife, Broomhilda, played by Kerry Washington, whom he lost to the slave trade long ago.

Their journey brings them to Calvin Candie, an infamous plantation owner played by Academy Award-nominee Leonardo DiCaprio, and his plantation known as Candyland. Under the guise of interest in the slave-fighting business, Django and Schultz navigate the plantation, but they soon catch the attention of Stephen, played by Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson, who is Candie's loyal house slave. With their intentions questioned, Django and Schultz find themselves in a precarious situation, facing danger from a ruthless organization determined to keep them from escaping. As they try to save Broomhilda, Django and Schultz must decide between their quest for freedom and the bonds they have formed, weighing sacrifice against survival in a story full of tension, loyalty, and redemption.
